Prophase Biostudios exhibited at South by Southwest (SXSW) Create in downtown Austin. On Friday the group exhibited next door to President Barack Obama, and one of our members, Blake, got to experience an in-depth search (don’t worry, he returned with a smile). Through the weekend our members showcased our various member’s hard work with a homemade PCR thermocycler, an algae photobioreactor, an original piece of bio-art created by attendees, and plenty of innovative ideas to move forward with. The discussions were incredibly supportive and exciting, and we are looking forward to our inevitable success as we increase our membership and engage in classrooms and partnerships.
On Saturday, March 11, Prophase Biostudios hosted a SXSW biohackers’ party with Josiah Zayner, the founder of The ODIN, Ellen Jorgensen, co-founder of Genspace (the first biohackerspace in the world), Karen Ingram, an NYC biodesigner and leader in the biohacker movement, and Daily Laurel of Biohacking Safari, a worldwide biohacking photo-journalism project. Check out some of Daily’s pictures below!
Prophase Biostudios has a booth at SXSW Create. The event is free to the public, so come check us out and see the progress we are making and projects we are creating at Austin’s first and only community biohacking laboratory!
